About Me
My name is Brian Landry. Friends and colleagues call me “Coach.” I am driven to help others find their calling and be their best!
My name is Brian Landry. Friends and colleagues call me “Coach.” It’s a take after the late and great Coach Tom Landry of the Dallas Cowboys. It also eventually became my callsign (nickname) in the Air Force.
Who I Am
Hello! I’m Brian “Coach” Landry, a proud Cajun from Louisiana and a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel with a passion for developing leaders and helping professionals navigate major life transitions. The nickname “Coach” stuck with me during my Air Force days, playing off the legendary Dallas Cowboys Coach, Tom Landry (no relation!). But, nowadays, its who I am!
Professional Journey
My 25-year Air Force career began as a C-141B Navigator, delivering troops to combat zones, and evolved into developing military leaders and conducting strategic research. With a Ph.D. in Leadership from Gonzaga University, I’ve transformed my military experience into a successful coaching practice.
What I Do Now
Today, I work with executives and professionals in two key areas:
1) Executive Coaching: Helping leaders tackle the challenges of increased responsibility and scope
2) Retirement Design: Guiding professionals beyond financial planning to create fulfilling post-career lives
“Retirement isn’t crossing a finish line – it’s stepping up to a new starting line with more time, talent, and treasure available than ever before.”
Why I Do It
After a successful military career and consulting practice, I found my true calling in helping others achieve their potential. As a Christian, I believe I’ve been blessed with unique experiences and skills to contribute meaningfully to others’ lives. Through Convene Peer Advisory Groups and one-on-one coaching, I help leaders align their professional success with personal fulfillment.
Personal Life
Married to my high school sweetheart Jessica for over 38 years, we’re proud parents of two successful sons and blessed grandparents to three wonderful grandchildren. When not coaching, you’ll find me hunting, fishing, actively involved in community service and nonprofit leadership.
I am a brother of Christ, and a life-long student of leadership. I grew up in relatively humble means in south Louisiana. Yes, while God created us all equal, only a very few of us benefitted from his giftedness of being Cajun. LOL I had a strong Catholic upbringing and was the number 10 child of 11; seven boys, four girls.
I grew up earning my way to the luxuries I wanted. You know, the little things like candy at school. So, I’ve had a job since I was 11 years old. I even worked offshore in the Gulf of Mexico on oil rigs and production platforms. I barely made it through college but did earn a commission into the United States Air Force.
I made the Air Force a career. Loved most of it. I retired as a LtCol and was fortunate enough to earn a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University while serving. In the Air Force, I was a Navigator on C-141’s for the first half of my career. The second half was mostly parallel to that of a college professor. I thus have extensive background in training and platform teaching, as well as research. I have facilitated and taught numerous seminars and classes. I led several teams and projects throughout my career.
Post Air Force, I started a one-person consulting firm focused on leadership development. After 11 years, I am still focused on leadership development but conduct my business under the umbrella of Convene, a professional peer group advisory company. I also lead seminars and discussions on preparing for the non-financial aspects of retirement. In addition, I conduct consulting work within the realms of leadership, culture, and personal growth.
I married my High School Sweetheart, Jessica 38 years ago. She is my anchor and biggest fan. She is also leading a successful career in the wealth management arena. Together, we have two adult sons. The eldest is an airline pilot, married to a nurse, and together they are parents to our three grandbabies. Our younger son is a Nurse Anesthetist and is married to a doctor. Both our boys are highly successful, which we all give credit for to their mother.
In business acumen, I am a transformative and accomplished professional with over 40 years of leadership experience. As a talented educator and trainer, I am a proven catalyst to personal and organizational change and leadership development, facilitator of best practices, strategic planner, and cultural change expert.
I thrive in settings where I can put my 25 years of Air Force Officer Experience (Retired as a LtCol) and my Ph.D. in Leadership Studies to use. My armed forces experience and educational prowess form a unique qualification set producing innovative strategies to improve individual, team and organizational effectiveness. As a servant leader, I am extremely adept at empowering others to reach their highest potentials.
As an Executive Coach, I work with you to extract essential awareness of current situations. Through empowering strategies, I partner with you to build a strategic plan and implement actions that lead to exponential growth and change. Many view the U.S. military as the greatest leadership laboratory in the world. I not only lived that experience, I taught it!
As your Designed Retirement Coach, I am trained and certified to help you make the most of your next phase of life. I believe when we approach retirement, we are not finishing nor are we passing through a goal post. In other words, its not the end. Rather, we are at a starting line. Never before in life have you had more time, talent, and treasure available to you. But, after a retirement honeymoon period, many retirees face a very dark side of retirement. Suicide among baby boomers is rising at an alarming rate; as well as drug addiction and divorce rates, among others. You see, money (401K, pensions, Social Security) is only a very small part of retirement planning. There are other vital elements that you should think about and plan for. I can help you (individual or couple) design a life in retirement that is both fulfilling and joyful!
You may be wondering why I am still working if I am retired from the military? The answer is simple. I believe that I have been extremely blessed. I have had a successful career, a beautiful and wonderful family, and am living large. God has truly blessed me and my family. After retiring from the Air Force, despite having a successful consulting practice, I found myself wondering and unfulfilled. Never before have I had the freedom I have now to do whatever I want. As a strong Christian, I think God created me uniquely with the skills and experiences in order to contribute to his kingdom. So, that’s what I am doing. Giving back in a way that supports and lifts God’s Kingdom.
I am excited to work with you, and, I look forward to our engagements.
